AMMA RESTAURANT was opened
in 1983 in Chennai, and was named after Dr. MGR's wife Mrs. JANAKIAMMAL,
who was endearingly called AMMA (which means mother) by their followers.
Mr. Chinnaiah, the founder of this restaurant was born at a small
village called AMMANKURCHI, in Pudukottai district, located in the
CHETTINADU area in the Southern State of Tamil Nadu, INDIA. He had
the privilege of serving Dr. M.G. Ramachandran (M.G.R) as his head
Chef for more than two decades.
AMMA RESTAURANT was the vision of just one man's dream - The great
Dr MGR (Ex-Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and Matinee idol). Due to
Chinnaiah's loyalty, sincerity and culinary talents, Dr. MGR aided
the opening of a restaurant at the premises of the Member of Legislative
Assembly Hostel (MLA's Hostel).
